Legacy
Established in 2017 by Linda Riley, the DIVA Awards are integral to DIVA’s history. Linda is a trailblazer for LGBTQIA visibility, having founded the European Diversity Awards, British Diversity Awards, Lesbian Visibility Week, the Rainbow Honours, and notably receiving the accolade for Trans Ally at Trans In The City 2021.
When DIVA Magazine began in 1994, Section 28 was still in place, and LGBTQIA publications often failed to speak for queer women and non-binary people. We’re proud that DIVA was founded by this demographic, for this demographic.
The awards celebrate how far we have come, while remembering how far there still is to go and looking to the future of queer visibility.
Now over three decades later, we’re still celebrating LGBTQIA women and non-binary people proving that the power of community can overcome prejudice.
