The DIVA Charitable Trust was founded on the legacy of DIVA magazine. Launched in 1994, the iconic title is the world’s leading publication for LGBTQIA+ women and non-binary people.

For over three decades, DIVA has celebrated authentic voices, challenged stereotypes and built a thriving global community. Now the DIVA Charitable Trust is taking their mission even further, not only telling stories but also driving social change.

They work at the intersection of media, research and community action, connecting individuals, organisations and allies to make visibility a shared responsibility.

Established in 2017 by Linda Riley, the DIVA Awards are integral to DIVA Charitable Trust’s history.

Linda is a trailblazer for LGBTQIA+ visibility, having founded the European Diversity Awards, British Diversity Awards, Lesbian Visibility Week, the Rainbow Honours, and notably receiving the accolade for Trans Ally at Trans In The City 2021.

When DIVA Magazine began in 1994, Section 28 was still in place, and LGBTQIA+ publications often failed to speak for queer women and non-binary people. We’re proud that DIVA was founded by this demographic, for this demographic.

The awards celebrate how far we have come, while remembering how far there still is to go and looking to the future of queer visibility.

Now over three decades later, we’re still celebrating LGBTQIA+ women and non-binary people proving that the power of community can overcome prejudice.
